Paying tribute to the few I look up to
This will soon be my own personal tribute to 311…still working on it! =D
I’m listening for your sound, here on the ground
I attempted to track down every time the song Tribute was played in concert, and find out who it was dedicated to. 311 has been kind and thoughtful enough to dedicate this song to many beloved fans and friends who have passed away, and I thought it would be nice to remember those individuals here. This list is not yet complete and is currently just cut and pasted from responses I received on the 311 bulletin board – but please email me if you know of an instance missing from the list below. Thanks!
5/26/96: Winston Salem, NC – dedicated to Bradley Nowell from Sublime
July 2000: No dedication
11/20/00: SLC, dedicated to Kelly Evans
3/11/02: 311 Day. Keith Adams, BBer.
3/29/02: University of New Hampshire- it was a student who had recently passed away, not sure of his name.
4/6/02: St. Louis – dedicated to Keith Adams
4/8/02: Omaha, NE – Not sure who it was dedicated to.
8/12/02: dedicated to Brian
8/17/02: Peoria – dedicated to Billy Boyden (not sure who this is)
8/19/05: Mansfield, MA- dedicated to a guy who was killed by a drunk driver earlier that month (I believe). His friends threw a shirt on the stage and Nick displayed it on one of the speakers during the song. One of the same guys was next to me at the show in Providence this past November and threw another one of the shirts on stage but it didn’t get played.
8/24/05: Philadelphia, PA – it was dedicated to Debbie who passed away close to that show.
10/22/05: Santa Barbara, CA – Santa Barbara Bowl – Believed to be dedicated to the bber Jukebox Groove’s friend.
11/04/05: St Paul, MN. Somebody in the band Bayside, I think.
11/28/05: Baton Rouge. Dedicated to Katrina Victims.
12/16/05: Dedicated to Jon Pursley. My best friend & hardcore 311 fan Jon Pursley passed away 2 weeks prior to the show. I emailed Joan & Peter, and to my surprise…they did it!
3/11/06:
-They dedicated it to Bob Marley at the Wiltern Theatre in LA back in the day! (Because he played on the same stage)
