Next 311 album in the works, big event in March…
It seems like there is so much going on in 311 world right now! The Summer Tour is coming to an end this week, with a show tonight in SLC and…FINALLY…it will be my turn to see 3 shows in a row here in California this weekend!!! I cannot wait!! =D
As you may have heard, management said yesterday:
We plan to announce a very special 4 day event happening the first week of March 2011 very soon.
WOW!! What could this be?? Well, since it is in early March, it seems like it will be too cold to have any sort of event anywhere besides southern Florida, which I don’t see happening. And it is NOT in LA.
My guesses are a cruise, a Hawaii or Jamaica trip, or some sort of spring break thing in Mexico. A bad thought popped into my head today…I hope it’s not some MTV Spring Break crap!!!!!! I think there is a good chance it could be a cruise though. What else???
Whatever it is, I’m going to start saving now! I don’t recall 311 ever doing a 4-day event in the past, so whatever it is, it must be pretty epic!!!!
Also, P-Nut did a radio interview and someone from the bulletin board summarized his interview, saying:
I just heard Pnut get interviewed on our local alternative station. He mentioned they have a whole albums worth of material that they will work on for the next year. He said after they released Uplifter and started playing the songs they wanted to change up some of the songs. So they want to spend extra time on the next album.
He also mentioned the next album will be recorded independently and released digitally. However they are open to a record company picking them up for this album. He said hopefully not though.
Hmmmmm!!!

That’s awesome about the album new album!!! I’m excited to hear what they came up with. I wonder when they’ll bring in B. Rock again?
P.S. It’s good to know that some people are as obsessed with 311 as I am. I thank you from the bottom of my heart for taking time out of your day to post news of their doings. You website is one of my top five most visited sites.

Alyssa,
I feel the same way right now with 311 news. I just came back from Red Rocks and feel like there is just so much going on. That’s a good feeling though!
Cruise is an interesting suggestion.
I do not think at all it will be involved with MTV.
My guess is 4 day event where they play full albums in two different cities. Total guess though.
Anything that is an “event” should be a good time.
I love all the different ideas/events/shows going around with 311 recently. It seems like they got some new energy and are going at it hardcore.
As always, keep up the good work on the site. It seems like you will have your hands full in the coming months!
P.S. Thanks to all the 311 fans I met out in Denver. There is nothing like the 311 community. In my hotel room that I shared with 311 fans were 4 people. One from St. Louis, one from Seattle, one from Portland and one from LA. I mean how fucking awesome is that! Thanks again to all…everybody helps make the trip 311x more fun when you meet new people and share this experience.
Hopefully see people on Halloween!

Hey all.. Been poking around here a very long time and never signed up and posted before so this is my 1st time
Just wanted to say I’m stoked for some new material and I believe that the new album will have something to do with the “Special 4 days” I can see them debuting the whole album over that span.. I remember being in Omaha for 2 shows in 2000 at Sokul Hall and them playing a bunch of songs that were debuted before “From Chaos” came out.. It was quite an experience hearing songs like “Full Ride” and “We Do It Like This” for the absolute 1st time.. Whatever they decide to do, Im saving now like Alyssa said..
Whatever it will be. it will be epic!!!
So Im hopping on a plane from Mn tomorrow to head to San Diego for so far just the Irvine show.. I was expecting 91xfest to be a “festival” type show with a shortened set so I was gonna skip it.. I just checked the Website and it says 311 plays from 9:05 – 11:00 so I was wrong!! Im gonna try to make this one also..
Anyone going to be at these shows?? I saw there was a lil pre-tailgate party in Irvine?? Id love some details for this!! I talked my 2 good friends that live out there to join me in Irvine, but Ill most likely be at the SD show on the solo..
Im always up for meeting Excitable Ones!
Anyone with any details for tailgating or anything going on in SD please reply!!!!
Thanks

If this event is in the first week of March then it could techinacally end on 3/11/2011. An odd year 311 day maybe??!!?? New Orleans in March is hit or mis weather wise. Any idea when they will announce this??

Alyssa and 311 Nation
Hey just curious… what are the benefits for them not being signed a label any more besides? I know the label probably puts pressure on them for different singles and what not but I figured they had a lot to do with record distribution and financing for touring.. stuff like that. Just curious to know why they would rather not be on one that be on one…..
Thanks in advance for the info!
-Alan
p.s. Got my Halloween tickets and a costume idea already… do you?

woohoo for another Hokie on here! for some reason I don’t think the 4 day event will be happening in more than one city, but who knows. It would be awesome if it were a cruise…all I know is we’re gonna have to save like crazy. I bet it’s gonna be expensive as hell lol
July 23rd, 2010 at 1:10 am
what does hokie mean???
no i didnt get halloween tix…yet…i dont know yet if i can even go for sure. i have to see if i get a different job before i will know…hopefully by september. im going to try my hardest though!!!!!!!
im not really sure how much the label pays for touring costs. i think though, that by cutting out the middle man (label) in the distribution process, they will get a lot more of the album sale $ for themselves. i also think nick said in the interview i did with him last fall that the label wasnt even doing hardly anything to promote the albums lately or anything, so it was kind of pointless. i think with the fan base they have, they dont even really need much that a label can offer at this point…especially if they want to do a digital release anyway. they do all their online stuff themselves, plan the tours themselves, etc, so if they can find an alternate way to distribute, they’re set. if they werent really getting any promotional support anyway, they’re not really losing anything. i just am not sure about touring, but i have a feeling the label doesnt really cover that. have to look into that more though.

Good stuff Alyssa … I didnt realize the label wasnt really doing much for them these days.. guess I just never paid attention. Thats BS though. These guys have been around 20 years, have a dedicated fan base and sell out all their shows plus all of their albums still debut at the top of the charts when they come out and the label is doing much… sucks.
Its whatever I just cant wait to here new tunes from them. Hopefully Sexton will have penned some rockers (always gotta love a Sexton tune).
PS -Hokie= mascot for Va Tech where I went to school. Its a turkey or really just a cheer. Gotta love turkey legs at football games in Blacksburg.
Keep it on the positive! peace

Usually bands have a different agent for touring. It usually doesn’t have much at all, if any, to do with the record label. Hope that helps.

i cant wait to hear what the 4-day event will be. a cruise would b cool, new orleans would be even better. hopefully theyll make an announcement at the halloween show and ill be there to hear it. i cant wait!! drivin down from jersey…just anotheer epic concert experience courtesy of the best band in the world
July 28th, 2010 at 10:18 pm
I really hope it is going to be full album shows next March. Someone even mentioned on the board they may do 2 full albums per night. I am starting to think this may be the BIG surprise. I mean if they are going to do something for March 2011 (03-11)…..well a cruise doesn’t cut it IMHO. A cruise is cool but not EPIC. All 8 albums(beside Music) being played over 4 consecutive nights…..now THAT is EPIC!

I heard from a friend in Cali (Same guy who told me 311 Day 2010 would be in Vegas 3 weeks before it was announced) the the event is a cruise from 3-3-11 to 3-6-11. No details on the actual cruise, destination and shows.. But it looks like The Excitable Ones are getting on a boat!!

That sounds pretty legit……oh well. Will wait for the official announcement but mentally getting ready for a Baltimore show instead of the cruise. Cruise is going to be EXPENSIVE, my wife does not want to do one, and I don’t think it will be a good environment for my baby daughter anyway.
